Barbecue Beef Ribs

You can have great tasting barbecued short ribs of beef all year round. Using your slow cooker will assure that they come out tender and don't require as much work as cooking them on an indoor or outdoor grill. After you season them you can set them and leave them alone only periodically checking that they have enough juice in the crockpot to keep them from burning. If you don't have a crockpot you can use the same recipes to make tasty and tender short ribs in the oven.

Ingredients & Preparation

2 pounds of beef short ribs

1 pkg of BBQ Short Rib Seasoning or

1/2 cup of bbq sauce

1 pkt of sasson

1 tbs of adobo

1 tsp of minced garlic

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp onion powder

optional: 1/2 tsp of red pepper flakes, 1/4 cup chopped onion

About 6-8 servings

Wash the ribs in water and vinegar. Remove any large pieces of fat but do not remove all of the fat. Place in a bowl with all of the seasonings and massage them in. Add bbq sauce last and rub on the ribs. Seasoning the ribs and putting them in the refrigerator overnite will set the seasoning and boost the flavors. Add 1/2 cup of water to the crockpot turned on high and place the ribs inside. Cover the crockpot. Once the water begins to bubble turn the timer on for 2 hours. Check the crockpot every 20 minutes to be sure that there is liquid in the pot. They can take from 90 minutes to 2 hours before completely cooking. It depends on how thick they are and how tough the meat is. When they are starting to fall off of the bone they are ready. Some people like to parr boil them first in a dutch pot with water and seasonings for 10 minutes and then cook them. If you are making this on a work night that will decrease the amount of time they need to be in the oven or crockpot. Parr boil them at night, place them in the refrigerator and then you will only need to put them in the crockpot for an hour or less.

Finshing up

I do not leave my crockpot unattended and leave my home. I consider an electrical appliance as much a safety hazard as a lit stove. When checking the ribs you can stir them to put the ones on the top on the bottom. How thick your ribs are will determine if they need to cook for more than 90 minutes. When the meat separates easily they are cooked. They go well with brown rice and vegetables or white potatoes and carrots. We also enjoy them with a salad and a starch. It's a very hearty meal that tastes almost as good as if they had come off of the grill. If you do not have a crockpot you can place them in a shallow baking pan, cover them and cook them at 350 degrees for an hour. If they are thicker you can leave them for 90 minutes. If they are tender remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes. It will give them the texture simular to what they get when they are cooked on the grill. Enjoy!
